My Visit to a Landfill

Last year over my winter holiday break from school, I visited a landfill in Pennsylvania where New York City’s trash ends up.

This may not sound like the most exciting—or picturesque, traditional, or pleasant—place to spend one’s holiday, and is certainly not as glamorous as a ski town or beach where some of my other classmates went, but I wanted to experience what the residents of the Yorkville will experience if the East 91st Marine Transfer Station is built.

An Open Letter to Dante de Blasio to Help Heal NYC

New York City must come together to Heal.  The pointless murders of Officers Ramos and Liu show us that words do matter.  They also serve to remind New Yorkers that every day, the NYPD and FDNY put their lives on the line to protect all New Yorkers – a lesson we seem to have forgetten since 9/11.

The current divisiveness between politicians, the police and residents must somehow be dialed back. Dante de Blasio can again play a role in helping.   My letter to Dante asking him to join with me as teenagers to show the adults that people with different ideas can engage in civil dialogue.  See the pdf of my letter here.
